Design Philosophy
Our design philosophy includes meticulous attention to:
- Visual logic - A clear hierarchy of elements such as headings and sub-headings provide a logical grouping of information.
- Contrast - Colours, sizes, images, and emphasis are contrasted to provide focal points and visual balance.
- Alignment - Clean and sensible alignment of horizontal and vertical elements facilitates the flow of information.
- Repetition - Consistency is provided by repetition of recurring elements in expected positions, and in formatting.
- Proximity - Closeness implies relationship, so related elements are grouped together.
- Grids - Invisible divisions (and occasionally tables) are used as an underlying template throughout the site to promote visual harmony.
- Usability - Pages must be easy to understand and easy to navigate. Printable versions of pages and downloadable files are added as required.
- Maintainability - A flexible design and clearly commented code allow for easy expansion of a web site. Separating the hypertext code from the formatting in a separate Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) ensures that formatting changes can be quickly and easily implemented.
- Standards - We implement the standards of the World Wide Web Consortium in the web sites that we build.
- Accessibility - Any web site should be accessible to people with disabilities. Our Accessibility page will tell you more about the features we implement on all our web sites to make them more accessible.
- Search Engine Optimization - We subscribe to the organic or "white hat" method of search engine optimization (SEO) to avoid being penalised by search engines. For more information, read this article about SEO.
